My name is Josiah Nichols, I was born in St Charles MO.  We lived on a large farm near the town of Hawk Point MO.  I grew restless and left the farm the year my father Matthias died.  I was headed for Texas.  I arrived in Bonham, TX and moved on to Collin County where I joined Captain Stapp's Company of Rangers for 6 months with the war with Mexico.  Then I joined William Fitzhugh's company for 12 months.  Being stationed on the Texas frontier around where Gainesville is now.  When the Civil War broke out I was made a Captain of state troops.  I was transferred to the Indian Dept of the army.  I was discharged from the army when I was elected Sheriff of Collin County.  I have delt with the likes of Jesse and Frank James, fought indians, been involved in many a shootin scrape.  I ran Wyatt Earp and Luke Short out of town once for running a crooked faro game at the Elm Street Saloon in McKinney.  So if you plan on a comin to my town, and startin trouble rest assured you and I will meet.  And if it comes to spittin lead, I will live to meet again, while you are resting peacefully in NOT on Boot Hill!
